Spring is Finally Here!


The students are never as thrilled to come to Religious School as when it’s time to go to ‘Sev’!  That is after every eight sessions, when Rabbi Goodman takes the Juniors and Seniors to Seven Eleven for a treat after they finish a chapter in their textbooks.

The Havdalah ceremony takes place at the end of every Sunday service.

The Passover Model Seder was held in the Social Hall on March 25.  Many thanks to Margie Edelman, Cheryl Minsky, Cantor Lavranchuk, Rabbi Goodman, Mr. Korn, Mr. Shapiro, Ms. Isopo and Arianna Isopo for helping to run the Seder, serve food set up and clean up.

Thanks to all the families who donated ritual and traditional foods for the Seder.

How is the parsley?

Blood,. Frogs. Hail. Locusts......

Darkness. Boils. Cattle Disease....

The Cantor led the students in some traditional and new songs during the Seder.

The students had designed their own Passover coasters on these tumbled marble tiles.

Here is the recipe for Mock Mac and Cheese.
3 large eggs
3 1/2 cups Matzo farfel (6 Matzo broken up).            Mix all ingredients
1/2 lb. cheddar cheese (8 oz. shredded).                     Put in 2qt. Casserole
6 tbsp. Melted butter or margarine.                             Cover and bake at 350 for 30 min
1 cup milk.                                                                  Uncover, bake 15 minutes longer until golden brown
1/4 tsp. White or black pepper
1tsp. Salt.                                                                     I quadrupled the recipe to make two large trays.
1pint sour cream

Garden City Jewish Center Welcomes in the New Year! 2017-18

The Religious School students began a Welcome project during their very first week of classes! The children get to reconnect, or meet, new friends after the long summer break. Speaking of welcoming  newcomers, Reagan Minsky was named in our Sanctuary as part of a recent Friday evening service. She is the adorable daughter of Adam and Jen Minsky and granddaughter of Cheryl and Jay Minsky. Margie Edelman, our resident artist and Religious school Art &Culture and Pre K teacher, took all of the childrens’ hand and letter cut- outs,  and arranged a collage to welcome all of the Rosh HaShana attendees in the Social Hall. Our beautiful old silver was spruced up and polished by Elaine Kreisberg for yet another year.  Thank you. Our Men’s Club got together to rebuild the Sukkah during Sunday school. School’s (Almost) Out For Summer!

Some of the student artwork on display in our classroom. Here is another Havdalah ceremony, during which every student gets to participate...eventually. GCJC Vice President Robyn Clark arranged for a CPR class to be held during Religious school hours a few weeks ago...hope some of you took advantage and got certification! It’s a Mitzvah, or it should be! The final Art project of our school year, is a large mural/poster made up of Marc Chagall influenced images of our own Garden City Jewish Center! Ms. Edelman had the students make a drawing that they would later redraw onto the poster. Chagall loved floating figures, animals, colors and fantasy. Seriously, this could be from a real Chagall!
